Enjoy A Fuller, Sturdier Smile, No Surgery Needed

While most dentists will recommend dental implants for tooth loss replacement on account of their many long term benefits, sometimes they may not be the best option for you. Dentures are simple to use and largely affordable, but they’re unstable, meaning they can easily slide around and fall out. So how do you replace lost teeth if you don’t qualify for implants, but still want a sturdy smile? Fortunately, Dr. Galperin and Dr. Stanley Sotnikov of Northbridge Dental can offer dental bridges as an alternative restoration for patients who have lost teeth.

What Are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are restorations made of false teeth called pontics. Crowns are attached to each end of the pontics. These crowns are attached to the healthy teeth, also called anchor teeth, on either side of the gap left by your missing teeth. The crowns hold the pontics in place, ‘bridging the gap’ in your smile.

Benefits of Dental Bridges

Dental bridges offer a number of benefits that may make them the perfect restoration for you. Some of those benefits include:

  • Non-invasive installation
  • Quick healing time
  • More affordable than implants
  • Sturdier than dentures
  • Improves your bite
  • Can last years with proper care
  • Comfortably replaces one to four lost teeth
  • Easy to qualify for
  • Can be customized to match your natural smile
  • Helps maintain the shape of your face
  • Helps prevent misalignment of other teeth

How Are Dental Bridges Installed?

Initial Consultation

Before you can receive your dental bridge, you’ll have an initial consultation with one of our dentists at your location of choice. During your initial consultation, your dentist will thoroughly examine your mouth, review your medical history, and ask you about your smile goals. The information your dentist gathers will allow them to determine if a dental bridge is the right treatment option for you.

Designing Your Bridge

After you and your dentist have both decided that dental bridges are right for you, your dentist will alter your anchor teeth and perform any necessary extractions while you’re under anesthetic. From there, we’ll take images and impressions of your teeth. These will be sent to an offsite laboratory, where they’ll serve as the blueprints for your bridge. You’ll return to have your bridge installed once it’s ready.

Depending on your case, your dentist may provide a temporary bridge so you don’t have to go with missing teeth in the meantime. Your dentist can also use feedback about your temporary bridge to make any necessary alterations to your permanent bridge.

Installing Your Permanent Dental Bridge

To install your permanent dental bridge, we’ll clean your mouth out to clear it of debris and ensure no particles get caught under the restoration. Your dentist will make sure your bridge is to your liking before cementing the crowns in place by your anchor teeth. After your dentist ensures the bridge fits snugly and comfortably, you’ll be free to enjoy your new smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do dental bridges last?

Dental bridges can usually last ten to 15 years, but this can vary based on the materials used, how often you see your dentist for dental exams, and your oral hygiene habits. The dentists and the rest of our team at Northbridge Dental encourage you to visit us for exams as directed and to continue practicing proper at-home dental care to extend the life of your restoration.

Can dental bridges be whitened?

Dental bridges can be customized to blend with your natural smile but unlike your real teeth, they can’t be whitened. Our dentists recommend you undergo teeth whitening before you receive your dental bridge, so your restoration matches your real teeth.

Can dental bridges be repaired?

If your bridge is damaged, depending on the materials used, your dentist may be able to repair it. Don’t attempt to repair a broken dental bridge yourself. Instead, put the pieces in a clear, plastic bag and call our Alpharetta office at (678) 319-0210 or call our Roswell office at (678) 352-9890 to schedule an appointment. Bring the pieces with you on your appointment date and our dentists will determine if the bridge can be repaired or needs to be replaced.

How much do dental bridges cost?

The exact cost of your dental bridge will vary based on factors such as the materials used, how many teeth need to be replaced, and your insurance. Please call your provider beforehand and ask them which costs they can cover. To help our patients afford their treatment and receive the best care possible, we offer financing options, including third-party financing from CareCredit and LendingClub
